Most Frequently Asked Questions
The weight capacity for each shelf will be different depending on the size and installation. It can range between 40 and 80 lbs. For more complete information refer to the individual product listing.
Mounting to solid wood blocking or studs will give you the highest weight capacity but we know that it's not always possible to mount to studs, if you can't locate studs or you want to add additional mounting points, we recommend using toggle bolt anchors and screws. Standard plastic drywall anchors will pull out of the wall and can cause the shelf to lean forward. Toggle Bolt style drywall anchors do a great job of supporting the weight.
We craft each shelf to order and we do everything we can to fabricate and ship them as quickly as possible. We push ourselves to operate under a tight timeline which makes our lead times short but it does make changes difficult. We know plans can shift and mistakes happen so we try to be as flexible as possible and still make sure we’re shipping out everything on time. Below are the details:
- Within 1 business day (3pm CST cutoff time) we can make changes at no additional charge.
- Between 1-2 business days from order there is a 10% change order charge.
- Between 2-3 business days from order there is a 20% change order charge.
- After 3 business days changes are not possible. The shelf is too far into production to change/modify.
For example: If order was placed on a Friday you can make changes until the following Monday at 3 pm CST at no cost. Tuesday at 3 pm CST for 10% of the shelf/shelves cost. Wednesday at 3 pm CST for 20% of the shelf/shelves cost. After 3pm on Weds no changes can be made.

We ship each order with a yellow hardware bag with each shelf order. If that has been lost below is a link to our included hardware and recommendations for hollow wall anchors (if needed). They are readily available at most hardware stores or you may also purchase additional hardware for $5 plus shipping. Contact us if you would like to order replacement hardware.

Yes we offer free shipping on orders, the criteria are below:
- Order is greater than $99 in value. T
- The order is shipping Contiguous US. We do ship to Alaska and Hawaii but there will be an additional shipping charge. The shipping rate is calculated based on the size and weight of the order and we’ll use the best rate available.
- Order is less than 80 inches long. If any item exceeds 80 inches long there could be an additional shipping charge. This will be communicated prior to the order being shipped, no surprises.
The short answer is Yes we provide optional shipping insurance through Route and we highly recommend getting it. We want your beautiful shelves to arrive safely at your door! That's why we offer optional shipping insurance through Route. Why Consider Route? While we take great pride in our packaging and quality control (every shelf is inspected before it ships!), unexpected events can happen during transit. Route provides additional protection for your order in case of:
- Damage: If your shelves arrive damaged, Route helps you get a replacement quickly.
- Loss: If your package is lost in transit, Route helps you get a refund or replacement.
- Theft: In the rare case of theft, Route can help you get reimbursed. The Choice is Yours!

Returns/Exchanges
We get it, sometimes plans change and our goal for you to love and use everything from us. Unlike a lot of made to order manufacturers we offer returns on our items. Please submit a claim using Route one-click claim if your order has been damaged, stolen or lost in shipping. Due to the made to order nature of our products returned orders will be assessed a 50% restocking fee. Please note customers are responsible for all return shipping costs, and materials must be returned in unused and resalable condition. Returns must be initiated within 30 days of shipment. Returns are accepted only if stock items are not used, damaged or altered in any way. No returns are accepted on altered or custom items.
You may exchange your order. We treat it as 2 separate transactions (a new order and a return of the original order). The original order will be assessed a 25% restocking fee. Please note customers are responsible for all return shipping costs, and materials must be returned in unused and resalable condition. Returns/exchanges must be initiated within 30 days of delivery.

It is rare but in the event that you receive a defective or damaged item, please contact our AMAZING customer service team is available to help or answer any questions at customerservice@jthomashome.com. Please include images of the damage/issue along with images of the packaging. We'll work together to make the best plan of action. Repairs or replacements may be made at our discretion.

Made in the USA
All of shelves are made in house in the USA. Slat wall panels are outsourced and not made in the USA (we don't have the space or machinery to make them locally). We spent over 1 year finding the right partner that can product them to our standards and finish.
